Pro and Cons of Prepaid Cell Phones While the use of prepaid cell phones is growing rapidly, like everything else there’s the positive side of it versus the downside of it. The Pros of Prepaid Cell Phone *Easy to get *Easy to get activated *Easy to add more time or service to *No credit check *No deposit *No long term contracts *Good alternative for children *Sound quality is just as good as any other cell phone The Downside to Prepaid Cell Phone *May not have the latest in Phone models available to choose from *Not as big of selection of cell phones to choose from *May end costing you more than a traditional cell phone plan depending on your usage needs *Some prepaid phone carriers don’t allow you to port your number over to a different carrier so you may not be able to keep your number if you change providers. Just be sure to check first if this important to you. However some of these “downside” items are likely to change in the future because of the growing popularity of Prepaid Cell Phones and more and more carriers jumping on board. The carriers want to keep their customers happy so they’ll continue to expand and improve on the options they provide, to try and beat out the competition. One example of this is that some carriers are already starting to add some of the latest and popular phone models to the prepaid cell phone line up. Carriers such as AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile have already added the Motorola Razr V3 to the prepaid handset choices. This means the others are likely to follow suit in the near future as well. I think we’re also likely to see more carriers allow you to port your number over because they will want to keep up with the competition. Just like before when regular phone service and cell phone service started letting people keep their numbers. As time went on more and more carriers started doing the same thing so this is likely to improve in the prepaid cell phone market as well. The other thing we’re already noticing is the cost of minutes has dropped quite a bit compared to what they used to be. So we’re likely to see more price drops as competition in this market heats up.
